Every person we met in Dampier told us the same thing: while you’re here, you have to go to Karijini National Park. We’d heard it so many times that when a generous follower offered us the use of their vehicle and camping gear, we didn’t hesitate. We packed up and drove 600 kilometres inland to see what the locals call Australia’s Grand Canyon.

We were not disappointed.

Karijini is unlike anything we’ve experienced from the deck of a boat. Ancient gorges carved into the Pilbara, crystal-clear pools at the bottom of sheer red rock walls, and a silence so complete you can hear the wind moving through the spinifex. After months at sea and in coastal anchorages, being surrounded by desert and rock felt surreal — and spectacular.

The whole trip made it into our latest video, Episode 126. We tried to capture the scale of it, though honestly the camera doesn’t do it justice. You’ll have to go yourself one day.

A massive thank you to the kind souls who lent us the gear and made the trip possible. This is exactly the kind of community that makes the cruising life so special.

If you want to follow along more closely, our Patreon supporters get exclusive footage and early access to every episode. You can also support us with a one-off PayPal donation — everything goes towards keeping the boat going.
